The David Heller Foundation is a sponsor of the Teen Athlete Cardiac Screening (TACS) program. Co-founded by the David Heller Foundation and Legacy Health System in 2006, the program aims to educate student athletes ages 13-19, their parents and the public on the importance of screening to detect cardiac conditions such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy; the most common cause of sudden death in athletes.
The screening is held annually and includes a patient family history, height, weight, blood pressure, body mass index, EKG and a cardiac exam. The screening is done by an all volunteer staff of cardiologists, pediatricians, nurse practitioners, EKG technicians, and lay volunteers.
